Nánás Strucc Kft

Our story dates back to 1993, when the first ostrich farm of Hungary was founded in Hajdúnánás.

Both my father and godfather were owners.

Over time, in 2012, we dreamed of creating our own farm.
We were able to start the whole thing in 2013, when we managed to buy our estate, which is only 1.5 km
from Hajdúnánás. The initial flock of 30-50 pcs has now grown to several hundred. We are already
working with the largest breeding stock in the country, and we are growing and increasing our numbers in
order to achieve our goals.
Our dream is to build an international distribution network, where we raise our animals taking into
account economic opportunities and trying to stick to “close-to-nature" keeping technology.

We are in the process of establishing an ostrich processing plant. With the help of this system we would
be able to produce the best quality meat in the market, and we would be very happy and proud to share
our products with Europe and one day hopefully the whole world.

Breeding and sales

When we set our mind to having our own ostrich farm, our aim was to achieve a full vertical, a fullproduction chain. The first step to achieve this, was the selection of the perfect breeding materials.

These birds were imported from Romanian, Checz, Italian and German ostrich farms. We tried to selectour stock from the widest possible range. On our farm you can find birds with black and blue-neckedgenetics.

Now we select not only on the basis of parental genetics, but also on the basis of strict standards. We are the first in Hungary to chip and identify our breeding birds, so when selling, we can tellthe parental background of the birds and their egg yields going back several years.

Animals involved in breeding are fed separately from 6 months of age, and after a 2-step selection, only the best and most promising individuals can be included in our breeding system.

Selling chicks

Hatching of the produced eggs takes place in a modern, closed system. The hatched chicks are raised on a grid until they are 3 weeks old. It is true that we do not keep them in a close-to-nature system for the first weeks, but this way they can be raised at a much better survival rate in the first 1 month.

We adhere to the principle of not selling birds younger than 1 month, since most deaths occur in the first 2 weeks. This prevents unviable birds from being taken away from us. The hatched chicks are immediately given a unique identifier (microchip).

For keeping and feeding birds, we provide assistance with full-fledged keeping technology if required.

Birds purchased from us can be transported only after having appropriate papers:

  • Invoice
  • Veterinary certificate and Pet owner's declaration
  • "BIR" paper
  • Enclosure identification and culture code
  • Authorisation to transport live animals
  • For international shipments: TRACES

Slaughter bird programme

Over time, we want to be able to slaughter and process birds of the equal and great quality. This can be achieved by feeding the birds is the same in the last three months before slaughter (starting from when they reach a weight of 70kg). It is very important to us that we are able to guarantee a consistent quality for our partners.

To avoid the stressful loading procedure and transportation, the birds are bleeded at your own place using a mobile stinging point.  Afterwards we use a refigerated van for transport and the work continues in a processing plant. This will allow us to produce much better quality meat.

Who can participate in our program?

  • Firstly we are counting on the peopple who buy the chicks from us. We sell the small birds to them with a guaranteed buyback intention. Those partners will always be given priority when the the birds has reached the appropriate weight and age.
  • Of course, those who hatch on their own or take chicks from someone else can also participate, but this can only be done after agreeing on terms and signing a contract.

Mentor programme

In 2012, when we came up with the idea of creating a completely new farm, we wanted to get to know the "whole vertical" of the ostrich sector widely. In the domestic sector, we could not find a specialist who would have liked to share his experience with us and provide us with useful information. We have gained experience in various European farms, which we are constantly incorporating into our own economy.

We have been to France, Germany, England, Poland, the Czech Republic and Romania to get to know the sector as widely as possible.

Our company now continues all stages of production:

  • bird breeding ( reproduction of ostriches, incubation of eggs )
  • the slaughtering process, cutting, processing and packaging of the final products

We can proudly say that we have enough professional background and experience to be able to help others.

Why is it essential?

  • mastering the most cost-effective technology
  • conscious breeding animal selection
  • you can learn a lot from the mistakes of others and save a lot of money

Who do we recommend it to?

  • those who want to get started now or are just getting information about this sector
  • who already have a flock of birds and want to develop
  • who want to find problems on their own site and find the best solution

What we provide:

  • high level of professionalism
  • developing the technology for your farm
  • showing a professional direction

Breeding programme and research

In cooperation with the Department of Animal Husbandry of the University of Debrecen, we also carry out research and breeding program activities. Our most important task is the pedigree of the first ostrich species. Hungarian, Romanian and Slovakian settlements are also involved in this multi-year process.

The research work includes the identification of the causes of embryo necrosis, the examination of changes in the composition of eggs during the laying year, with the aim of improving hatchability and the quality of chicks. One of the PhD students of the Veterinary School of Animal Husbandry Sciences deals with the topic of ostrich breeding and hatching. By participating in the research, we hope to improve the hatchability of eggs and the viability of chicks as much as possible, and we will discover scientific connections not known in ostrich breeding so far, which will make practical professional work even more productive.
